A 300 thousand square meter apron is planned to be built at Kazan airport.
Farit Khanifov, Head of the Ministry of Transport of Tatarstan, noted that Kazan will host the BRICS summit in October.
The regional authorities are planning to build a 300,000 square meter apron at Kazan airport for aircraft parking so that the guests would not have to take their aircraft to Samara, Yekaterinburg or Ufa to stand idle.
Currently, land plots for construction are already being registered. The apron will accept all classes of ships existing in the world, Khanifov said.
He noted that during the summit it is planned to receive about 33 wide-body ships. At the moment, Kazan airport can only accommodate 12 such airplanes.
The cost of the work is estimated at 7-8 billion rubles. The apron will be located near the third terminal, the construction of which is planned to be carried out in 2024-2026, the minister specified.
The master plan for the development of Kazan Airport until 2050 was approved last year. It reflects proposals for infrastructure development.
In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin designated Kazan as the venue for the BRICS heads of state meeting in 2024.
