Russia applies to WHO to register vaccine against COVID-19

The RDIF representative office submitted an application to the WHO for registration of the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19. The drug must undergo an accelerated registration procedure.

The fund says that the vaccine should also be requalified by the World Health Organization. "Upon receipt of registration documents, Sputnik V will comply with international standards of quality, efficiency and safety. We express our gratitude to WHO for active cooperation," said Kirill Dmitriev, Director General of the RDIF.

Russia became one of the first countries in the world to apply for registration of a vaccine against COVID-19 to WHO. "As part of the Emergency use listing procedure, the Russian vaccine will become available to the whole world faster. We want to support global efforts to prevent the disease," the RDIF said in a statement.

Russian vaccine against COVID-19 was registered in August 2020. In total, since the beginning of the epidemic, Russian scientists have developed three drugs against coronavirus. The Chumakov Federal Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Drugs will begin to produce a new vaccine in 2021.
