Andrey Voroshilin, a dentist from the SberZdorovye medical company, issued a warning in a conversation with Lenta.ru regarding two habits that are seemingly harmless but can have a negative impact on dental and oral health.
The doctor drew attention to the habit of chewing seeds, noting that it is one of the most destructive habits for teeth. Regular and prolonged chewing of seeds can lead to wedge-shaped depressions on the upper and lower incisors. Such defects can be repaired with a composite aesthetic restoration, but if the damage is significant, ceramic veneers or crowns may be required.
Acidic foods, such as concentrated fresh juices, especially from oranges and apples, and lemonades, are also damaging to teeth. The acids in them erode tooth enamel, making teeth more sensitive and increasing the risk of tooth decay on thin enamel.
The second bad habit highlighted by the dentist is biting the inside of the cheeks and lips. This can lead to the development of leukoplakia, a precancerous condition that requires immediate treatment.
Biting your own lips can also cause cheilitis, an inflammation of the lip mucosa that requires medication or surgery.
Earlier, a nutritionist told about the benefits of seeds for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease, and nutritionist Denisova warned about the harm of complete abandonment of fatty foods.
