The threat of drought in the country is increasing because of the abnormally long heatwave and lack of precipitation.
Various restrictions on water consumption have been introduced in 88 French departments due to the threat of drought. This was reported by the BFM TV channel.
Some departments in the region of New Aquitaine and the Pays de la Loire have declared a red drought alert level. It limits the use of water, including for agricultural purposes.
In the east of the country a yellow and orange threat level has been set. It is forbidden to use water in private gardens and wash cars.
