The experiment will start from April 25.
The Russian government is launching an experiment to convert student tickets and credit books into electronic format from April 25. According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, the decision was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The experiment will be voluntary and will affect students of colleges, universities, residents and graduate students. First, credit cards and student documents will be converted into an electronic format, and then uploaded as a QR code to personal offices at the portal of state services and to a special application for smartphones.
The electronic documents will have the same rights as their paper counterparts. They will allow not only to pass to educational institutions, but also to get preferential tickets to theaters, museums and also to public transport.
However, the government clarified that electronic documents will not replace traditional ones, and students can use them at their own discretion.
The Ministry of Education and Science, Rosobrnadzor, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Digitization, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Culture will be responsible for the experiment, which will last until December 31, 2025.
Earlier it was planned to start the experiment from November 20, 2023 and complete it by the end of 2024.
It is important to note that in September 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the "digital passport", similar to its paper version, representing a QR code and a photo, and in some cases requiring a one-time numeric password upon presentation.
Earlier it became known what an electronic signature for individuals is and how to obtain it. Also in February, many Russians were unable to fly on vacation because of an error in their passports.
