A power outage occurred throughout Ecuador due to an accident on a power transmission line (transmission line). The massive blackout began after three o'clock in the afternoon local time.
"According to the report of the national electricity grid operator, there is a failure on the transmission line that has caused a cascading outage, due to which there is no electricity supply in the country," Ecuador's Minister of Transportation and Public Works Roberto Luque said on his social X page.
In Quito, there was a traffic collapse because of the extinguished traffic lights. Internet outages are also known.
Against the backdrop of a record drought, Ecuador has been experiencing an energy crisis for several months now. Since April 20, the state of emergency has been imposed. All hydroelectric power plants have been shut down.
