The Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported a change in the methods of telephone fraud: attackers are increasingly provoking potential victims to make an independent call.

According to cybersecurity experts, this approach dulls caution: the victim believes that the initiative came from him or her, so there is no danger. This is where the deception lies.
As an example of the new scheme in the police cited the imitation of account hacking and sending alarming SMS or messages in messengers. For example: “Suspicious activity in your personal cabinet of Gosuslugi services has been recorded. If it's not you, contact the support team immediately.”
After the call, the victim connects to a fake “consultant” who reports an attempt to steal data and offers ways to “protect”. The scammer, meanwhile, convinces the victim that the first message was sent by other attackers.
This is a complex, multi-stage scam, the purpose of which is to gain full control over the victim's accounts and finances, - concluded the cyber police.
