It is assumed that Haub's brother Christian may have given incomplete or distorted information under oath in 2021. This was reported by the prosecutor's office of Cologne to the agency "RIA Novosti".

The investigation was initiated after a complaint was filed, and its purpose is to clarify the facts indicating that Karl-Erivan Haub is actually alive. The prosecutor's office also noted that at this point there is insufficient reason to request that the official announcement of the businessman's death be rescinded.

Karl-Erivan Haub disappeared in March 2018 while skiing in the Alps and was declared dead in 2021. Haub's brother Christian, who now runs the Tangelmann company, testified under oath about his brother's alleged death.

In April 2024, the RTL television channel published an investigation into a possible staged death of Karl-Erivan Haub. According to the TV channel, the businessman actually lives in Moscow with his lover. However, later the information about his stay in Russia was denied by the woman herself.

Earlier, the head of Dagestan commented on the incident with the detention of the head of the Chechen Emergencies Ministry, as well as Russians may be allowed to confirm the account "Gosuslugi" from abroad.
