A gas station cashier in the United States found among the change a rare coin with the image of President John F. Kennedy. Its value amounted to 3.2 million dollars (249.6 million rubles).
Steve Whitmore was counting the day's receipts when he saw a strange 50 cents among the change. They were a different color. The man turned to experts and found out that in his cash register got an extremely rare prototype of a 50-cent coin with a profile of John F. Kennedy in 1964.
Such coins are still minted today, but the one Whitmore found was 90% pure silver. What makes the coin particularly valuable is that it was created shortly after the assassination attempt on JFK in November 1963. The coin eventually went under the hammer at auction for more than three million dollars.
“The idea that one coin could be worth more than my entire business was something incredible,” the American admitted, Elcabildo reports.
Now Whitmore advises all people working with change to be more attentive to the coins passing through their hands.
