The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for 2024 includes seven Russian higher education institutions, according to a study conducted by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy.
This year's ranking includes Moscow State University (MSU), which was in the 101-150 group, and St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) with the 401-500 position. Also represented are Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) (501-600), Ural Federal University (UFU) (601-700), and Higher School of Economics (HSE) (701-800). Novosibirsk State University (NSU) (801-900) and Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) (801-900) also made the list.
In 2023, nine Russian universities were included in the ARWU ranking. In 2024, Moscow State Medical University (MSMU) and National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (NRNU MEPhI) were not included in the list.
ARWU has been published annually since 2003 and is designed to assess the success of universities using transparent methodology and objective data, RIA Novosti reported.
Earlier, Russian teachers complained about the poor level of Russian language in the children of migrants. Experts also said that if the USE is canceled, children from poor families and remote towns will not be able to enter universities.
