On Tuesday, June 14, opposition activist Alexei Navalny (included in the list of organizations and individuals involved in extremist activities or terrorism) was escorted to a strict regime penal colony № 6 in the village of Melekhovo in the Vladimir region. This was reported by TASS with reference to the head of the public supervisory commission of the region Sergei Yazhan.

It is specified that Navalny's transfer from the colony in Pokrov was made after the entry into legal force of a sentence in a criminal case about defamation of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Earlier, Olga Mikhailova, a lawyer of the opposition politician, reported this, without specifying to which penal institution he was transferred.

In March 2022, Navalny was found guilty of insulting the court, as well as of especially large-scale fraud. He received a sentence of nine years in a maximum security penal colony, as well as a fine of 1.2 million rubles.
