FMBA has patented a drug to treat COVID-19. The drug «blocks the activity» of the coronavirus and «kills» it.
The press service of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency reported on the receipt of a patent for a new drug against COVID-19. The drug specifically turns off the activity of the coronavirus and kills it, and not only affects the symptoms of the disease, the report said.
The stage of preclinical trials has already been completed, which proved the effectiveness of the direct antiviral action of the drug in cell culture in laboratory animals. The toxic effects of the drug were not detected.
FMBA management is now organizing clinical research. It is assumed that after their completion, the drug will be released in the form of nose drops for post-contact prevention of the disease, as well as in the form of inhalation, which will be used directly in the treatment of infected people.
