Ministry of labor: in Russia almost 20 million people belong to category of poor

The head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov said that almost 20 million Russians are poor. At the same time, the number of unemployed citizens decreased slightly, compared with September.

More than 13% of Russian citizens, this is almost 20 million people, have the income that is below than the subsistence level. This was stated by Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov at a meeting of the United Russia faction on Monday.

According to Rosstat, the number of citizens whose income does not exceed the subsistence minimum in 2017 reached 18.9 million people, or 12.9% of the total population. Last year, the figure fell to 18.1 million people, or 12.3% of the country's population.

Kotyakov also noted that unemployed Russians reached the maximum level in last month, and the figure has been increasing since March. In August, the number of registered citizens in employment centers reached 3.6 million, in September - 3.7 million. By October 9, the figure was 3.6 million.
