"Pensions should be indexed just above the inflation rate. Today it is seen at 8.4%, so pensions should be increased by 8.6%," said Vladimir Putin at a meeting with members of the government.
The head of state noted that there had been no final data on inflation in 2022. Vladimir Putin asked the government to "conduct the necessary procedures and make a decision in the near future.
Deputy chairman of the Council of the Federation Committee on Social Policy Elena Bibikova said that indexation of pensions will be carried out retroactively. Pensions will be indexed to Russians from January 1, 2022.
The head of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, Inna Svyatenko, said that senators would promptly support the president's decision and consider the bill. Spokesman for the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said that Vladimir Putin's position on the indexation of pensions has not changed.
On April 1, 2022, the size of social pensions in Russia will increase by 7.7%. The amount of payments will increase to almost 11 thousand rubles.
