Moscow will have to pass a smart test before renting an electric scooter

This test is designed to check the user's reaction speed. If a person fails the test, he or she will still be allowed to drive the scooter, but the speed will be limited to 15 km/h (with a maximum speed in Moscow of 25 km/h).

Before the start of this season, there was a lot of talk about the need to test electric scooter users. It was proposed to introduce a mandatory traffic test or a simplified version of it right in the rental app. Rental companies already conduct random tests for those who have been seen in violations. Now they've introduced a new test - for cognitive reaction speed.

Simply put, it's a test of how well the person who wants to rent a scooter is thinking. So far, only one kicksharing has launched this test - Whoosh (20 thousand scooters in Moscow and about 200 thousand across Russia).

Anastasia Shevchenko, an employee of the service's press service, told KP.RU that the novelty will be used in the evening or during periods of increased traffic. For this purpose, the application will need to offer a short test that will reveal reaction speed, attentiveness and readiness for careful scooter driving.

There are several variations of the tasks, and they are all based on the Schulte and Stroop tests (German and American psychologists who lived in the 20th century). The user is given one minute to put numbers and letters in the correct order, determine the color of a word, or find the name of a color.

If the test is not passed, the scooter can still be rented, but its speed will be limited to 15 km/h. You can also refuse the test, but then the speed will still be reduced.

Anastasia Shevchenko emphasized that if the test is not passed satisfactorily, it may indicate critical fatigue, illness or slow reactions - conditions in which it is undesirable to drive a high-speed vehicle. Concentration, timely reactions and focus on the ride are important when riding a scooter. It is also forbidden to drive a scooter while under the influence of alcohol - a fine of 100 thousand rubles is stipulated for this.
