The EU Delegation to Palestine condemned Israel for demolishing a Palestinian school in the West Bank.
According to the Times of Israel, on May 7 Israeli authorities demolished a Palestinian school near Bethlehem that was built without a permit and was funded by the EU. The court deemed the educational building a threat to the safety of the students and ordered its demolition back in March.
European Union representatives in Palestine condemned the Israeli decision and called it "illegal under international law." They noted that it will affect 60 Palestinian children and exacerbate tensions between the countries, according to Reuters.
The agency's source at the Israeli cabinet said that the dispute over the school's safety has been ongoing for six years. Authorities have assured that a nearby school will accept all children who have been deprived of education.
