U.S. Army fighter Gordon Black was arrested by the Primorsky Territorial Court until July 2 on theft charges.
Black arrived in Russia from South Korea after completing his official mission. He planned to meet the girl before returning to the United States. A U.S. Armed Forces spokesman said Black committed a theft from a woman in Russia. It is not known whether it was the same woman who was the object of his romantic interest.
The Pentagon emphasized that Black took trips to Vladivostok without authorization from his superiors, RIA Novosti reported, citing NBS data.
The Army has already notified his family, and the US State Department is providing the soldier in Russia with appropriate consular support, the US Department of Defense said.
Earlier, the US launched a new investigation into Boeing after two whistleblowers about the aircraft giant's defects died.
