Townspeople suggested that it was either a natural phenomenon, or powerful floodlights. Others thought it might be a ballistic missile launch or the work of the laser complex "Peresvet". But there are those who explain the phenomenon by the invasion of aliens.
It is reported that at least three such columns of light were observed.
