WHO specialists have been tracking new COVID-19 strain found in Marseille since November 2021

A new strain of COVID-19 has been found in French Marseille, brought in by a tourist from Cameroon. The WHO has already reacted to the news.

“Since November 2021, we have been closely monitoring the new coronavirus strain. We have three types of strains: Traceable, Interest and Concern. We have been closely monitoring the B.1.640.2 strain since November, along with two of its sub-variants, ”said WHO expert Abdi Mahamoud during the briefing.

The new strain was found in Marseille in 12 people at once. Research is currently ongoing.

The Austrian newspaper Heute previously reported that a new strain of coronavirus had been found in Marseille. In all infected, tests revealed an "atypical combination of mutations."

The new version contains 46 mutations. The threat level and infectivity of the new strain are unknown. At present, Omicron and Delta strains are widespread in the world.
