In the second half of this year, the rotation of the Earth slowed down compared to last year's acceleration. This was stated by IERS experts. The researchers noticed that the daily rotation of our planet varies throughout the year due to various natural phenomena.
The Earth's rotation is influenced by earthquakes, ebbs and flows. In the past year, the planet rotated faster than the reference point 86,400 seconds per day. The shortest day was recorded on July 19, it lasted 1.4602 milliseconds faster.
But already this year, the rotation of the planet has slowed down. Average indicators of one revolution of the Earth decreased by 0.5 milliseconds.
