India's Akasa Air has become the first airline in Asia to add a Boeing 737-8-200 variant of the 737 MAX aircraft.
The ceremonial handover of keys of the Boeing 737-8-200 to India's Akasa Air was held in Seattle. The aircraft arrived in Bangalore on the morning of July 28.
The carrier now meets the national requirement of a minimum fleet of 20 aircraft and can operate international flights. Akasa Air has managed to achieve this fleet size in just one year of operations.
Vinay Dube, founder and CEO of the airline, said Akasa Air is an expression of what India is capable of achieving. He attributed Akasa Air's exceptional growth rate to the passion and dedication of the company's employees.
The carrier's focus on reliable and affordable flights has contributed to its popularity among passengers and has made Akasa Air the fastest growing airline in India since its commercial launch in August 2022.
It is noted that the Boeing 737-8-200 is the most environmentally progressive airplane and offers best-in-class passenger legroom.
Boeing senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing Brad McMullen said Akasa is the first airline in the Asian region to water down the 737-8-200."
Akasa Air has served more than four million passengers and operates more than 900 weekly flights on a network of 35 unique routes connecting 16 Indian cities.
