Women born in the 1990s entered reproductive age, which affected the statistics.
Fertility in Russia has statistically decreased due to a number of factors, said Alla Ivanova, head of the department of health and self-preservation behavior of the Institute of Demographic Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview to Radio "Moscow Talk".
The expert explained that the decline in population by 550 thousand people a year is due to a fall in the number of births and an increase in the number of deaths. Moreover, the intensity of births, that is, the births of children by one woman, also declined.
Women born in the 1990s entered reproductive age, which affected the statistics, because not everyone wants to give birth quickly. The number of deaths also increased due to generations born in the 1940s and 1950s.
"The population decline was projected. Pandemic factors were superimposed on that. And not having had time to come out of the pandemic, we have entered a new streak, which will also affect the dynamics," said Alla Ivanova.
