WHO: Since the beginning of 2023, deaths from COVID-19 worldwide have increased by 65%

Nearly 20 million people were infected with COVID-19 between Jan. 2 and Jan. 29, and more than 114,000 died, the World Health Organization said.

According to WHO, there were 19.9 million cases of coronavirus infection and 114.3 thousand deaths worldwide from January 2 to January 29, 2023.

Mortality increased by 65% compared to the previous 28 days, and the number of infected by 78%.

Since the beginning of the year, the most infected have been identified in the PRC with 11.3 million. China is followed by Japan (3.2 million), the United States (1.5 million), South Korea (1.03 million) and Brazil (459,900).

In addition, the PRC became the leader in the number of deaths with 62.7 thousand. It is followed by the United States with 14.6 thousand, Japan (10.1 thousand), Great Britain (3.1 thousand) and Brazil (2.8 thousand).

As of Feb. 1, the WHO had reported 753.6 million cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began and 6.8 million deaths. In the past 24 hours recorded 157 thousand cases of infection with coronavirus, the victims of the virus were 720 people.
