The Icelandic embassy in Moscow has suspended its activities since August 1, as it was previously informed to the Russian Foreign Ministry by Iceland's Charge d'Affaires in Russia Magnus Haneson. According to a RIA Novosti correspondent, the flag and signs have been removed from the embassy building, and police guards are no longer present. The diplomats' belongings were removed on Sunday.

The decision to suspend the embassy was made by Iceland's Foreign Minister Thordis Kolbrun Reykfjord Gilfadottir in early June. The Icelandic side explained it by the fact that the embassy's activities in Moscow do not correspond to the priorities of the country's foreign policy department, given the "lowest level" of trade, cultural and political relations with Russia.

However, the Icelandic Foreign Ministry emphasized that the decision was not a severance of diplomatic relations, and the reopening of the embassy in Moscow would be a priority when it becomes possible.

In response to the suspension of the Icelandic embassy, Russian authorities were ordered to minimize the activity of its embassy in Iceland in line with Reykjavik's decision, according to the website of the Icelandic diplomatic office.
