Accused of corruption and racism, Golden Globes on the road to redemption

The NBC television channel, which has pushed the gala out of its airwaves, has agreed to host it in 2023. The lead-up to the Oscar ceremony has undergone significant changes, Le Figaro reports.

The Golden Globe ceremony has conditionally emerged from purgatory. After two years of forced media silence, the ceremony has found a broadcaster. The 2023 edition will air Tuesday, Jan. 10, on NBC, the traditional partner of the gala.

The 2022 Golden Globe ceremony was held behind closed doors without the slightest display of images. Boycotted by the stars and their publicists, no one came to the ceremony. Knowing the exile, the organizers also made no attempt to broadcast their humble feast.

The ceremony was once considered a precursor to the Oscars, but since 2021 it has become the black sheep of Hollywood. The Los Angeles Times and specialty press have uncovered several scandals of corruption, sexism and racism. Of the 101 voting journalists in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, not one was African American. In the end, the scandal was so intense that NBC refused to host the ceremony in 2022.
