The father of 39-year-old American singer Britney Spears has filed a petition to end custody of her.
James Spears has asked the court to immediately and unconditionally terminate custody of his daughter. This is reported by the Fox television channel, citing court documents.
The performer has been in her father's custody since 2008. However, the court recently ruled to remove him. In place of her father, Britney Spears' estate will be controlled by accountant John Zabel, who was chosen by the singer herself and her lawyer.
Britney Spears' personal guardian continues to be Jody Montgomery, who specializes in this area. The court is expected to schedule a new hearing to decide whether to permanently remove custody.
"James sees no reason to continue custody for any length of time. He has already gone to court to terminate custody and has offered to stipulate to its immediate termination without reservations or exceptions," Fox television quoted James Spears' attorney as saying.
It is noted that he is not seeking compensation for the prompt termination of custody.
