Scientists have revealed that the de Winton's golden mole, which was thought to be extinct 90 years ago, has not disappeared from the face of the Earth after all. With the help of a specially trained sniffer dog, scientists managed to find it in the Port Nolloth region on the northwest coast of South Africa, reports Newatlas.

It is difficult to find the mole by other means, as it is perfectly camouflaged and hides if it feels danger approaching.

DNA research showed that the discovered mole belongs to a species considered extinct.

Note, the mole was found within the framework of a special program, which is aimed at finding the inhabitants of the planet, which are listed in the book of lost. Within its framework, since 2017 it was possible to find 11 species that were considered extinct.

Earlier in the "Land of Leopards" learned about another inhabitant of the park, which had not met before.
