The researchers hope that their development could be used in place of exercise.
Scientists have developed a drug that can fight excess weight. In this case, unlike other similar drugs, it does not affect human appetite or food intake, but accelerates metabolic processes in the body, according to the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
The authors of the development were scientists from the University of Florida. They named their invention SLU-PP-332.
When taking it, a person becomes more endurance, which leads to increased energy expenditure. The acceleration of fat metabolism in this case is similar to the process that occurs during fasting or sports.
Scientists explained that this effect is achieved by affecting a group of ERR proteins. These are the ones that regulate important metabolic pathways in energy-consuming tissues, including muscle, heart and brain.
Trials of the drug in mice have shown that it works. So, within a month, the mice had ten times less fat gained, as a result, the rodents were able to lose 12% of their total body weight.
