Work has begun at Sechenov University as part of the Priority 2030 Strategic Academic Leadership Program.
The first saliva biobank in Russia began to be created at I.M. Sechenov Moscow State Medical University, according to the university's press service.
The specialists explain that the collection of samples will be used for scientific purposes - to develop new methods of diagnosis and personalized treatment of diseases.
Maria Peshkova, a junior researcher at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine, said that human biological fluids reflect many body processes.
"With the help of the saliva bioresource collection it will be possible to study markers of cancer diseases. It can also be used in studies of autoimmune, cardiovascular, endocrine pathologies," Peshkova specified.
It should be noted that Sechenov University has a large collection of biomaterials samples - blood, urine, and tissues. It includes more than 140 thousand samples. Now the biobank will be replenished with saliva. The initial size of the collection will be 300 samples.
In the future, the saliva biobank will be used not only by scientists of Sechenov University, but also by specialists from other research centers.
The university has also begun to develop genetic tests to detect cancer at early stages.
