Scientists examined the mummy of a high-ranking Egyptian Huvi, found in 2019, and determined that he was embalmed and buried about 4,000 years ago. Previously, experts believed that the Egyptians began skillfully embalming the dead only 3,000 years ago.
According to scientists, Huvi is the oldest Egyptian mummy ever found, embalmed using high quality resins and fine linen bandages.
According to the head of the department of Egyptology at the American University in Cairo, Salim Ikram, if this is really a mummy of the Old Kingdom, all books about mummification and its history will have to be rewritten, as this completely changes the understanding of the evolution of mummification.
