The journal Science Advances published a study that refutes the generally accepted theory about the ecological catastrophe that killed a significant part of the inhabitants of Easter Island. It is claimed that there was no ecological catastrophe.

Easter Island is one of the most mysterious places on the planet, which for many years has attracted the attention not only of the scientific community, but also of numerous tourists. A significant part of them come to the island to look at the famous stone heads created by the ancient inhabitants of the island.

It was thought that to create such a number of stone heads would require a much larger population than the 3,000 people who were discovered on the island by the first European explorers in 1722. But now, by analyzing the area of these rock gardens with the help of AI it turns out that it is 20 times smaller than previously thought. This suggests that the island's population never exceeded 4,000,000 people.
