Earth's atmosphere receives huge amounts of CO2 from arctic fires

Scientists from the Russian Federation, the United States and the Netherlands suggested that the increase in the number of fires in the Arctic could be a source of large amounts of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

Global warming is dramatically changing the Arctic territories, provoking large fires there. The danger of this lies in the fact that earlier the Arctic Region was a CO2 absorber, and now it can become its source.

"Fires in the Arctic mostly take place in carbon-rich peatlands and permafrost soils," scientists note. For this reason, huge amounts of greenhouse gases will be released into the Earth's atmosphere.

According to experts, unfortunately this process is irreparable now, but it can be slowed down. This can be done when people take new steps to preserve the integrity of the world ecology.
