U.S. doctors have created a hemostatic styptic in the form of a heat-sensitive hydrogel. The Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovations reports this.
It is noted that this means compared to its analogues has several advantages, in particular, it is easy to remove after stopping bleeding, unlike powders, sponges and bandages.
The new styptic is in the form of a gel, which is non-toxic and has no effect on the body except for the target.
The gel contains heat-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) as well as laponite. It is noted that the gel heats up and becomes hard when applied to human skin. On contact with a cold saline solution, it becomes liquid again and is easily washed away with water.
The new product has already been tested on a laboratory model as well as on mice.
