A national heliogeophysical center will be built in Russia, which will make it possible to predict solar flares more accurately.

According to Izvestia, the construction of the federal high-tech center for monitoring solar activity should be completed by 2030.

Scientists noted that for May-June of this year recorded such a number of flares on the Sun, which has not been for the past half century. In addition, there were powerful magnetic storms, auroras. The relevance of research becomes clear.

Sergey Yazev, a senior researcher at the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stressed that the decision was made to create the largest center, which is equipped with modern equipment. For the center will create a large number of new installations with modern telescopes, allowing to see smaller phenomena of solar activity.

The National Heliogeophysical Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences will be built on the basis of the Baikal Astrophysical Observatory. It will be located on the coast of the lake in Listvyanka, 70 kilometers from Irkutsk on an area of more than 50 hectares.

Earlier, the strongest flare of class X occurred on the Sun.
