Italian scientists have stated that espresso is useful for the human brain. In particular, this drink can be a preventive measure against Alzheimer's disease, according to experts at the University of Verona, reports the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Scientists conducted a study in which they checked how the compounds contained in coffee affect tau proteins, which are associated with Alzheimer's disease.

By immersing molecules of caffeine, trigonelline, the flavonoid genistein and theobromine, as well as whole coffee extract in test tubes with a shortened form of tau protein for 40 hours, the scientists found that as the concentration of espresso extract, caffeine or genistein increased, the fibrils shortened. Moreover, they stopped forming large layers.

It was also found that the shortened fibrils were non-toxic to the cells.

The second experiment showed that caffeine and espresso extract bind the formed tau-fibrils.

Earlier scientists have told, ginger and black pepper are beneficial to the body.
