The inability to solve a simple task while walking indicates dementia, medics have found.
Scientists from the Arthur Marcus Institute for Research on Aging have developed a simple test, which indicates the beginning of processes of dementia development, reports The Lancet.
The aim of scientific work of physicians was to change daily habits of a person who starts to show neurodegenerative diseases.
Four thousand volunteers aged from 42 to 64 years took part in research. Doctors analyzed simple habits and elementary skills of subjects.
It turned out that if the patient cannot solve a simple mental task while walking, then with a high probability he starts the processes of mental degradation. Researchers noted a more negative prognosis if a person cannot walk and talk at the same time.
"This shows that your brain is starting to age at an accelerated rate," the experts stressed. According to them, this symptom indicates the imminent development of dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.
