The press service of the North-Eastern Federal University reports that on the basis of the laboratory of the Mammoth Museum of the North-Eastern Federal University scientists conducted an autopsy of an ancient wolf, which had been lying in the ice for over 44,000 years and was very well preserved. The university noted that such a find has no analogues in the world so far.

During the autopsy of the fossil animal samples of internal organs were taken, as well as the contents of the stomach and intestines. This will allow to find out what microorganisms existed in those times, what animals were sick and fed on.

Also were taken samples of soft tissue samples of the wolf, which will allow to study its genome and find out how much the DNA of the fossil animal differs from modern wolves.

It is noted that the autopsy was carried out jointly with specialists from St. Petersburg, who have been cooperating with paleontologists from Yakutia for many years.

Earlier it was reported that the paleontologist Anette Hegström considers the potentially possible artificial breeding of extinct animals more difficult task than it may seem.

Russian scientists found rocks from the Ice Age in Dagestan.
