There is a risk of complications after vaccination with RNA vaccines. The cardiovascular system usually suffers, scientists at Oxford University (UK) have found. But the risk is low, and complications are rare. Covid, on the other hand, can cause more significant health consequences.
During the new study, the results of which were published in the journal Nature Medicine, scientists analyzed data on 38 million people over the age of 16 years old vaccinated in England against COVID-19 from December 1 of the last year until August 24 of this year. It found that after vaccination with mRNA-based vaccines (AstraZeneca and Moderna), the risk of myocarditis was slightly higher in people under the age of 40 than in those who had had SARS-CoV-2.
Study participants were found to have 10 additional cases of myocarditis per 1 million people after a positive test for SARS-CoV-2, and 15 cases per 1 million after a second dose of the Moderna vaccine.
Researchers concluded that although the risks of myocarditis are slightly higher after vaccination, vaccination is necessary. After all, covid infection can lead to much more dangerous consequences. One of these is thrombosis.
