Russia has developed a sugar substitute without carbohydrates

Biotech researchers have figured out a way to create a sweet protein in the lab.

Russian scientists have come up with an alternative to sugar substitute that does not contain carbohydrates. The authors of the development were food industry specialists from the Efko company. As a basis, they took a fruit growing in Africa.

As it turned out, this fruit is very sweet, but not because of sugar as such, but because of the protein, which in contact with the taste receptors gives a striking sweetness.

As a result, the scientists figured out how to synthesize this protein in the laboratory.

The resulting protein turned out to be 10 thousand times sweeter than ordinary sugar. In other words, one gram of such protein can replace 10 kg of sugar. At the same time, the protein is devoid of carbohydrates, writes RIA Novosti.

Earlier it was reported that in Russia developed a wine for weight loss.
