The map reflects international knowledge of the satellite over the past 100 years. The compilers highlighted all types of structures with separate colors and marked all known craters, basins, and rocks.
Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Geochemistry and several other organizations have produced the most accurate map of the Moon, taking into account all available geological data. The work was published in the journal Science Bulletin.
The map is on a scale of 1 to 2,500,000. It shows all known rocks, craters, basins and structures on the surface of the satellite. The map shows 90 different types of structures, classified by color code.
Scientists did a great job in compiling the map: they analyzed an array of data about the Moon over the past century, evaluated it and transformed it. The data were used not only from Chinese sources, but all that exist in general.
