Depression and bipolar disorder suggested by blood tests

It could help increase diagnostic accuracy.

Researchers in the US have studied blood samples from people who have been diagnosed with depression or bipolar disorder after seeking medical help. The scientists were able to detect 23 biomarkers in the patient's blood that can be correlated with these diseases. The results of the study are presented in the journal Molecular Psychiatry.

The two disorders are difficult to distinguish from each other at diagnosis and no objective methods have been found to date. Biomarkers in the blood, according to the researchers, are promising and could simplify the diagnosis and selection of the best treatment for each patient.
