E-cigarettes increase the risk of tooth loss and cause bleeding gums.
Scientists have found that e-cigarettes negatively affect teeth and gums. For example, according to a study by experts from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research in Bethesda, vaping increased the likelihood of spontaneous gum bleeding by 27%.
In addition, says JAMA Network Open, a study of data from 30,000 people found that cigarettes, hookahs and vapes increased the risk of tooth loss by 35%.
Gum disease is twice as likely to occur with smoking.
Gender and age of the smoker do not play a role, the study says.
