Scientists from the University of Canterbury in Great Britain collected samples of snow fallen near the Ross Glacier in Antarctica. It turned out to be contaminated with microplastics, indicating a serious problem.

Even remote areas of Antarctica have been found to be contaminated. Scientists think it got to the South Pole by air.

Plastic is a harmful material. It affects human health by getting into the body, and it also absorbs solar energy, reducing the reflectivity of snow and thus contributing to global warming.
