Scientists have found a correlation between feelings of hunger and negative emotions.
Experts from Britain and Austria found that feeling hungry quickly makes people nervous and irritable.
During the experiment, 64 adult volunteers reported five times a day, using a mobile app, on their hunger levels and emotions for 21 days. Thanks to this, scientists received data about the participants of the experiment in different situations: at home, at work, in a cafe, on a walk, etc.
According to the results of the experiment, the scientists concluded that hunger increases negative emotions, such as anger and irritation, and decreases the level of pleasure. This applies to all people, regardless of gender, age, weight, eating habits, or personality traits.
According to Viren Swami, the study's lead author, being able to notice one's emotions can help people control them. For example, by recognizing that we are angry simply because we are hungry, we reduce the likelihood that negative feelings will reflect poorly on our behavior and well-being.
