Scientists have found that talking more than 30 minutes a day on the phone increases the risk of developing hypertension.
Scientists have found that long conversations on the phone are harmful to health. These conclusions were made by specialists from the Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, having studied the data of more than 212 thousand people aged 37 to 73 years. None of them had previously had problems with blood pressure.
Comparing their data with information on the frequency of using mobile phones, the experts found that over 12 years, 14 thousand subjects developed hypertension. Overall, mobile phone users had a 7% higher risk of hypertension than non-users.
The length of the conversation played an important role. If a person talked on the phone for more than 30 minutes a week, they were 12% more likely to develop hypertension than participants who spent less time on phone calls.
In cases where conversations lasted more than 6 hours, the risk of developing hypertension increased by 25%.
