During a special study, scientists found that grapes not only improve bowel function, but also reduce cholesterol levels and protect the heart.
As the Daily Mail reports, Californian researchers in the experiment revealed how this berry affects the work of the intestines. It was noted that the volunteers were given 46 grams of whole grape powder every day. After four weeks, the experts conducted an analysis of their intestinal microbiota. As it turned out, grapes have a beneficial effect on intestinal bacteria.
Zhaoping Li, a professor and nutritionist, said this finding is important because a healthy gut is essential for health. He also pointed out that the "grape diet" increased the number of Akkermansia bacteria. These have a positive effect on glucose metabolism and intestinal mucosal integrity.
The experts also found that the subjects' total blood cholesterol levels decreased by 6.1 percent and their "bad" cholesterol (LDL) levels decreased by 5.9 percent. In addition, the amount of bile steroid acids, which are directly related to cholesterol metabolism, decreased by almost 41%.
The scientists note that their results prove the great importance of grapes for gut health and normal heart function.
