The natural cataclysm occurred in June this year and was detected by the Japanese seismic station Hi-net. The tremor was insignificant and was not felt on the surface, but precise instruments were able to register it.

Usually earthquakes occur at a depth of about 100 km, but this one was more than 700 km from the surface. However, now scientists have learned that destructions also occur in the region of mineral deposits, the lower mantle.

Experts informed the journal Live Science, that this phenomenon could occur at the boundary between the upper and lower mantle. This is where the Bonin Islands are located, where the strongest s tremor was recorded.
