Lungs of recovered COVID-19 patients will recover over time

The research was conducted in people who could endure the disease the hardest. Physical education was called one of the methods of recovery.

An international group of researchers has released the results of their monitoring of the condition of patients with coronavirus. They came to the conclusion that the lungs are gradually recovering, and the symptoms are leaving. However, it does not happen immediately after recovery.

The study was conducted on 150 patients from a clinic in Austria. The average age of patients was 61 years. Almost half were smokers, 65% were overweight or obese, 21% were treated in the intensive care unit, 19% were connected to IVL. On average, they stayed in the hospital for 13 days. Scientists observed patients from the first day to the 24th week.

It turned out that after 6 weeks the dyspnea, which was found in half of the patients, remained only in 39%; coughing, also out of half - in 15%. 56% of patients instead of 88% had poor condition of lungs.

The researchers call earlier the beginning of rehabilitation, its duration, and physical activity the main factors of recovery.
