Molecular geneticists from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel were able to grow mouse embryos without the use of sperm or ova, the scientific journal Cell reported.

The scientists took previously selected stem cells, some of which were treated with drugs to run genetic programs. After that, they were placed in an artificial uterus, where they mixed and formed embryos.

As a result of the experiment, out of nearly 10,000 embryos, only 50 could survive. They grew to half their gestational age, and then they even had the rudiments of organs, including a heart.

Scientists say that the structure of artificially created embryos replicate the structure of natural by 95%, which in the future will allow the same way to grow organs and tissues for transplantation.

A similar experiment has been previously performed by Japanese scientists, who managed to create stem cells suitable for the majority of mankind. After all the processes of verification and study, they want to put them into mass production in a year.
