Scientists have said that single women eat more calorie-dense foods because they have increased activity in the part of the brain responsible for cravings for sweets.

This conclusion was reached by scientists from the University of California, reports JAMA Network Open.

The researchers analyzed data from 93 women, some of whom considered themselves single.

After that, the women were shown images of a variety of dishes, which alternated with photos on which there was no food. At the same time, brain activity was monitored.

As it turned out, the lonely women had higher brain activity in areas associated with cravings for sweet foods and junk food.

Now scientists believe that the unreasonable desire to eat something sweet and unhealthy may be associated with feelings of loneliness, anxiety and depression.
